Joseph Eichler was a developer who built over 10,000 homes, mostly in Northern California, mostly in the 50's. Because he worked closely with architects, and tried bold, new designs, his developments are now distinctive, and lived in by really cool people. :)

Some of the features that are identified with Eichler are a flat roof (like ours) or a slightly pitched roof (not like ours), lots of glass (yes), atrium (nope), radiant heat in the concrete slab (ours still works), open-beam ceilings (yes, but painted), wood panels (yes, but painted), and built-in furniture (yes, kitchen table). One of Eichler's goals was to build houses that were "affordable" while being better quality than you usually get from developers.
